This is your reminder that private insurance companies often refuse trans* people not only medically necessary transition care (which is seen by the insurance companies as “cosmetic” even though the medical community agrees it’s medically necessary), but also care which even the insurance companies consider medically necessary, on the grounds that transition is causing whatever the problem is and if you’d just stop transitioning, everything would be okay.

Cathy Brennan had a sign that said Sheila Jeffreys was her hero. She was not holding a sign that said “kill all trans people.” That’s not even something Sheila Jeffreys espouses, which you’d know if you’d ever bothered to actually read her work.
It is not putting anyone’s lives in danger to admire a particular (lesbian, feminist) academic. Cathy Brennan is speaking up for lesbians, the group that the dyke march is supposed to be about. Cathy Brennan is a lesbian…and your friends decided that she was not allowed to be there. Your friends chose to go up to a lesbian, in a lesbian space, and tell her that she didn’t belong. That is ridiculous and unfair.
Cathy has purposely outed, harassed, and stalked trans women, and then showed up at Dyke March with a sign praising a notorious transmisogynist, which is a really shitty thing to do. Even if she’s not saying outright “Kill all trans* people,” her behavior is still contributing to a culture of transmisogyny that gets trans women killed.
