No, seriously, Lady Gaga, stop. I already ranted about this earlier today, but I can’t say it enough. She should not, under any circumstances, be advocating, romanticizing, or in any way promoting ace-bandage or tape-binding.
Lady Gaga, if you want to be a LGBT+ advocate, good. All the more power to you. But educate yourself. If you want to dress in drag, awesome. Go for it. But do not use binding techniques that are dangerous. Ace and tape binding is dangerous. It can crack ribs, fuck up your lungs, rip your skin, crush your chest, destroy circulation. It can seriously hurt you.
Buy a binder. Make that an artistic statement. You are an award-winning, extremely famous musician. You have enough money to buy a binder. It’s not as “pretty” as ace bandages or tape, sure. But you want to be involved in the LGBT+ community. Show it. Don’t let trans kids look at you and think, oh, this is how I should bind. Look at how Lady Gaga did it, it must be okay. They will end up hurting themselves, because their only easily-accessible resource is showing them a binding techique that should never be used.
Do not romanticize trans people, Lady Gaga. If you want to do drag, do it right. If you want to be a trans advocate, do your research. Do not do this. Stop this Ace bandage/tape biniding right now, because it can do so much more harm than good.
I’m not trans, but that also bothered me about this picture. I’m sure there’s a place in her budget for a binder. :/
wtf is this picture
wtf is it meant to represent
idgi
Um, Lady Gaga, what are you doing? What is this? No, seriously, WHAT IS THIS?
gksdjfksdjf
i want to say this is in response to when she boycotted arizona and etc for sb 1070. she openly supports the dream act and blahblahblah, and there were some media campaigns done that were about, ‘we are all immigrants,’ ‘do i look illegal to you?’ and etc.
Yeah, I don’t see a problem with this. Actually a lot of the people who have been acting oh-so-offended by this obviously think the term ‘immigrant’ is some kind of slur. Seems like it’s a solidarity thing or a challenging people’s assumptions and prejudices kind of thing - and it obviously worked.
I think the problem people have with this is how she’s still in full Gaga-mode while trying to draw attention to a serious political issue.

ROLLING MY EYES SO HARD
THANK GOD WE FINALLY HAVE GAGA’S PERMISSION TO BE OKAY TO BE GAY
^
Really? It’s not about ‘having Gaga’s permission’ it’s more about having someone that is such a well known person, and such a role model saying “hey, you know what? Even though these people are discriminated against, hated and beaten, they’re not bad people. There’s nothing wrong with them and people need to see that”. Kids pick up on that, and carry it with them.
Yeah, there are plenty of criticisms you can level at Gaga (and Amanda Palmer, but that’s another story), but I can’t fault her for this.
greetings-from-the-underworld:
This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
OH MY GOD DO THE WHOLE THING PLEASE
I’m now deceased.

ok, seriously? I like Lady Gaga just as much as the next person, but this is ridiculous.
“Grace Jones’ love of controversy” - I’d replace that with Madonna.
“David Bowie’s fashion” - I’d replace that with Grace Jones. you can argue that gaga is a persona like Ziggy Stardust, but it’s too early to tell whether she’ll be able to switch it up like he did.
“the bluntness and instrumentation of Tori Amos” - seriously? The only thing they have in common is that they’re both women who play the piano. Their music sounds nothing alike, and Gaga seems o be more wrapped up in the aesthetics than Tori is.
“Kate Bush’s innovation” - lolno. I like Gaga, but Kate Bush is in a class all her own.
“John Lennon’s activism” - again, it’s too early to tell. Gaga’s a relative n00b.
“Michael Jackson’s love of showbiz” - okay, I can kinda understand that.
“Bruce Springsteen’s rock n roll spirit” - are you fucking kidding me
“A generic popstar’s appeal” - that doesn’t sound very complimentary.
“And with Madonna’s determination to be the biggest star on earth” - okay, yeah.
SERIOUSLY, GAGA FANDOM, THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS. SHE’S BEEN FAMOUS FOR LIKE, THREE YEARS. SAYING SHE’S AS INNOVATIVE AS KATE FUCKING BUSH IS A BIT OF A STRETCH, DON’T YOU THINK?
