Persepolis Book 1: The Story of A Childhood

Meanwhile, I got to go to my first party. Not only did my Mom let me go, she also knitted me a sweater full of holes and made me a necklace with chains and nails, punk rock was in.
I was looking sharp.

Just started reading Baker Street by Guy Davis and Gary Reed.

You know how Sherlock fans are getting upset over Elementary since Watson is played by Lucy Liu? Baker Street was a comic retelling of Sherlock Holmes published in the late 80s. However, the Sherlock and Watson characters are both women (Sharon and Susan). Sharon is a punk ex-police detective who’s also queer (her girlfriend is a major character) and Susan is an American med student. They live on 112 Baker Street instead of 221 Baker Street, and it takes place in an alternate steampunk 1980s England instead of straight-up Victorian.

And you know what? It’s awesome.

The classics are reinterpreted all the time. Baker Street departed radically from the source material, but Sharon and Susan are still recognizable as Holmes and Watson and are awesome in their own right.

Favorite Comic Book Characters | Death of the Endless

“I’m not blessed, or merciful. I’m just me. I’ve got a job to do, and I do it. Listen: even as we’re talking, I’m there for old and young, innocent and guilty, those who die together and those who die alone. I’m in cars and boats and planes; in hospitals and forests and abbatoirs. For some folks death is a release, and for others death is an abomination, a terrible thing. But in the end, I’m there for all of them.”

Marguerite Abouet and Clement Oubrerie‘s comics series about Aya of Yopougon tells the story of a nineteen year girl living in a working class town on the Ivory Coast. The strips are set in the 70s, and are reputed for having a strong sense of time and place, even some political acuity, all entwined with a charming and imaginative romantic comedy storyline.
A film is currently in production, based upon the first of the comics, and directed by Abouet and Oubrerie. Today, the first official image has appeared on Oubrerie’s blog. (via Bleeding Cool)

This is the best news I’ve heard all day. <3

Oh good god. It’s even more terrifying with illustrations.

Sweet dreams, everyone.

Is it me or does that baby resemble a Harlequin fetus? D:
